Questions
Asked a lot.
Ram 1500 Tradesman vs Big Horn: what's the difference?
Both start with the 3.6L V6 on the same frame. Tradesman is the work spec: vinyl floor, steel wheels, easy to clean. Big Horn adds the comfort and convenience features most people want for daily driving and more option packages. If the truck is a tool, Tradesman; if it is also the family car, Big Horn.
Does the Ram 1500 still come with a HEMI V8?
Yes again. Ram dropped the 5.7L HEMI for 2025 and brought it back for 2026 at 395 hp, offered on select trims such as the Express. The main upgrade engine is the 3.0L twin-turbo Hurricane six: 420 hp in standard output, 540 hp in high output.
How much can a Ram 1500 tow?
Up to 11,610 lb, properly equipped, per Ram, and up to 2,360 lb of payload. Those are the best-case configurations; the rating for a given truck depends on its engine, axle ratio, cab and bed, so check it for the specific VIN before you hitch up.
Which Ram 1500 is best for off-road?
The Rebel for most people: a factory lift, 33-inch tires, Bilstein shocks and skid plates. The RHO steps up to 540 hp, 35-inch tires and long-travel Bilstein Black Hawk e2 shocks. The supercharged TRX returns for 2027 with 777 hp.
Ram 1500 Laramie vs Limited: is the upgrade worth it?
Laramie is where leather comes in, with the Hurricane six standard and the 14.5-inch screen available. Limited adds the body-color luxury look, a richer cabin, air suspension and the 540-hp high-output engine as standard. If you want leather and the big screen, a Laramie with the screen package covers it; Limited, Longhorn and Tungsten are about finish.
Read guide
A Ram is judged by what's behind it. This guide starts with the job — tow, haul, dirt or the drive home — and works back to the trim, the engine and what's on the Colma lot today.
- 1Towing is the Hurricane standard-output six with the right axle; ask for the trailer camera and integrated brake controller on the unit you're looking at.
- 2Two bed lengths: 5'7" on the Crew Cab, 6'4" on the Quad Cab. Measure what you carry before you pick the cab.
- 3Rebel and RHO are the dirt-road trucks; Laramie and up are the ones with leather and the 14.5-inch screen.
