3 things you might not know about your Grand Cherokee

Three things about the Grand Cherokee that most owners never hear.

The L is the first one with three rows.

For 2021, Jeep built the Grand Cherokee L, the first Grand Cherokee ever with a third row. Before that, the Grand Cherokee had always been a two-row SUV.

Before you install a car seat, check your owner's manual for which seats have LATCH anchors and top tethers.

There's a real key hidden in the fob.

If the fob's battery dies, look for a small release on it: a metal key slides out. On many Grand Cherokees, the keyhole on the driver's door handle is hidden under a small cap you can pop off. Worth knowing before you need it.

How to get in and start with a dead key fob

  1. Press the release on the fob and pull out the metal key.
  2. Unlock the driver's door with it. The manual shows any hidden keyhole cap.
  3. To start, hold the fob where the manual shows, often against the Start button.
  4. Replace the fob battery soon.

If yours is a Summit Reserve, it may have the night vision camera. It uses infrared to spot people and animals past the reach of your headlights and shows them on the screen. On a dark road to the mountains, that's a nice extra set of eyes.
