3 things you might not know about your Wrangler

Three things about the Wrangler that most owners never hear.

Rubicon is a real trail, a few hours from here.

Rubicon is a real trail, a few hours from here.

The Rubicon Trail is about 22 miles of granite and boulders in the Sierra Nevada, and it ends at Lake Tahoe. In 1953 a group from Georgetown, California ran the first Jeepers Jamboree on it, and people have taken Jeeps over it every summer since. When Jeep built its most capable Wrangler, it named it after the trail. Next time you're in Tahoe, you're right next to where the name comes from.

Most groups take two days and camp at Rubicon Springs. Go with a club or an experienced group, never alone.

The Trail Rated badge is a report card.

The Trail Rated badge is a report card.

That little badge on the side means your Wrangler passed Jeep's tests in five areas: traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation (how far the wheels can stretch to stay on the ground) and water fording. A model doesn't get the badge until it passes all five.

Before you drive through water, look up your Wrangler's fording depth in the owner's manual.

There are easter eggs hidden all over it.

On 2018 and newer Wranglers, look along the edge of the windshield for a tiny Willys Jeep climbing up the glass. Then look at the taillights: the X inside is a nod to the jerry cans soldiers strapped to the back of Jeeps in World War II. There are more. Tell me how many you find.

Start looking around the glass, the lights and the cupholders for tiny seven-slot grilles and Willys silhouettes.
